Day 3 – Still Going Strong

So Tom and I have been officially going on the house “master suite” project for 3 days now. It’s been torn apart, restructured and we’ve got the plumbing almost finished. Half the flooring is in and we’re about ready to start raising walls (which should go up tomorrow). Don’t have time for many words, so please feel free to check out some pics of what we’ve done so far…

Friday “it” begins

We’re tearing up the house again. This time we’re creating a master bedroom and bath in the back of the house. Caleb will move to our former master bedroom. Tom Gaige is coming down to help me for two weeks and bang it out. Involves re-roofing, new rafters, framing, plumbing, electrical.. oh, and I’m installing an in-wall AV system (why not). The master will end up being much larger than Caleb’s room plus we’ll have a walk-in closet and a master bath with corner tub and walk-in shower. Read the rest of this entry »

New House?

imgp6762copy.jpg imgp6764copy.jpg

We finally got the outside of the house finished. Yeah!!!!! You are missing my little happy dance. We still need to do landscaping, but the house has come really far. Many people have said it doesn’t even look like the same house. A huge thank you to Clint, Tom Gaige, and Tom Rutherford (Quality Choice Painting).

16th August 2007

It’s August. In Florida. My AC is off.

Last night Tina called out “Clint, come here. Something is wrong!” Sure enough, that steady drip of water landing on the dining room table didn’t come from a leaky roof – there had been no rain yesterday. That meant AC leak. See, when cold air escapes into the 100-plus-degree attic – that’s “bad”.

I went up to investigate and found a bunch of  leaks coming out of the opening of main air handler. I went to work adding metal tape to it and shoring it up. And then I added mastic to seal it up good. Except of course that mastic has a 24-hour cure time… And this was last night at 7PM… So we’re at about 84 degrees (yes it could be worse) and waiting for dinner time to pop on the AC again.

And of course it’s about 95 degrees in the superheated gas chamber known as my office. Fueled by PCs, projectors and various and asundry electronics component, that room is the hardest to cool down.

Needless to say, I moved to the bedroom with my trusty laptop to sit under a nice ceiling fan placed on high.

We did everything except the back of the house – I took care of that after Tom went back home. Pics on the following page… Read the rest of this entry »

We’re almost ready to paint

corner-view.jpg As you may (or may not) know, I’ve been working on the house here in Lakeland for about 3 months now. In 9 1/2 days my friend Tom and I ripped off all the vinyl siding, removed the original wood siding underneath, replaced all the windows and added R-13 insulation. We did everything but the back of the house… It took me about 2.5 more months to wrap that up and the rest… Taking over a week off and having help really makes things go faster! Been playing in dirt for 4 days… no joke.

My brother-in-law’s sewer lines clogged up this week… worse than ever before. So we rented a snake and went to work…  4 days later we’re diggin trenches and cutting through concrete with a 14-inch masonary saw…So we’ve dug a trench about, oh I don’t know – 50 feet across the entire side/back yard to the ir fence where we’ll connect back into the city line. Meanwhile, our water blasting adventure ended in tragedy when the pipe came out all collapsed… thus the concrete demolition… Read the rest of this entry »
