Ben Zobrist (Rays) Teaches Lesson on Keeping Your Eye on the Prize
Last night Dan Medina invited me to the Tampa Bay Rays game against the Oakland A’s. It was great to see the team pummel the A’s 13 to 4, but it was extra special to witness a stark example of how we should lead our lives for Christ.
It was the top of the 6th inning when a batter from the A’s hit a 94 mph fastball which popped way out into right field. At first it seemed like business as usual and that it would clearly be a foul ball.
Until we all noticed Ben Zobrist.
Running. Full out.
His eyes never once left the ball as it continued on its course. He didn’t stop to look down. He didn’t seem to care how far he had come. Or where he was headed… even as he approached the end of the runway – which in this case was a short wall. He hit that wall so hard he flipped right over it and did a 360.
And then he came up with the ball. It was a beautiful play and a clear reminder of how we need to run this race. Eyes on the prize and no looking back. One day we WILL come up with the ball.
